I've come to the conclusion that most blogs are stupid. There are some blogs that act as a creative outlet or mode of expression. I can deal with those - they can be artistically and intellectually interesting. And usually funny. I dig humor.
Most blogs are meant to be informative, authoritative, forums for social change and politics, or just a place to body snark.
But a lot of blogs are dumb, including this one. Most are out there, being vaguely written by a 20 -, 30-, or 40-something that thinks that they have something important to say. Well, a lot of us don't actually have anything to say. Some are just out there to feel important, look important, or act as if a blog is the first step on the way to being important.
I don't have anything important to say, and I say that because I don't know enough in any one area to give any insight. I'm educated, but I'm no expert.
So my new method is to work this blog as an educational tool. As I learn things I will post about my learning process and what helpful tools are out there, particularly on the financial front. The best way to learn is by doing, so I hope that by expanding my knowledge base I'm alsop able to expand my portfolio, understanding of finance and fitness, and of course my wardrobe.
New tools for learning I'm excited about this year:
1. I'm getting a sewing machine, something I've wanted to invest in for a long time. Now I can alter and fix articles of clothing at home rather than pawn projects off to my mother!
2. ING shares tools. Ridiculously easy way to invest in individual stocks and ETFs.
3. New gym membership with the rugby team. I'm pumped to get back into shape, as I am currently very squishy. Also, it will be fun to learn more about the body's healing process since I'm still in recovery from ACL reconstructive surgery. Can't wait to be able to run again - and to train for a marathon from the moment they say go!
