Three Women

There are three portraits of three different women on my wall and they each embody something I want to be when I grow up.

1. The Uber-Wench: It's an antique cut-glass and fabric drawing of a she-pirate. She has a cape, cutlass and pistol and appears to be the most badass chica in the world. She exudes fierceness and fearlessness. There is intensity in her drawn eyes that makes you think she's cut you down in a second if you look too long at her treasure chest.

2. The Cabana Chick: It's a large old-fashioned poster proclaiming Cuba as the "Holiday Isle of the Tropics". The chica-boom in the pic is shaking her thang and maracas in a very dramatic, Carmen Miranda-esque ruffled dress. Her posture is relaxed, fun and lighthearted. Nothing is more important than getting a groove on.

3. The Demure Debutante: A print of a painting that hangs in the Hungarian National Museum, the portrait is of a young lady in a very austere pose and black Victorian dress. She is fashionable and ladylike, the very definition of grace and gentility. You could easily assume that she could be at the heart of a scandal without ever getting her hands dirty.

These women are all fictitious and probably designed and rendered by men but I am certain that they reflect real women in earthly situations. As I am still too young to know exactly who I am/what I want/what I'm doing, I have a goal to someday be all of these things at one: fearless, self-assured, confident and of course, unique. The individuality of each of these women speaks volumes to me, especially when they are positioned next to one another. It's not impossible to be fierce and feminine, easygoing and elegant. At least, I hope it's not. I suppose I'll find out...
