Cereal

I have a particular affinity for breakfast cereal. It really doesn't matter what kind of cereal. I'll eat anything from the super healthy bran pellets to the unnecessarily sugared-up corn puffed kids cereal. As long as it's some kind of grain made into flake/puff/cluster form and mixed with milk, I will eat it, and eat it often. Price and brand mean nothing; give me the feed-a-third-world-village-econo-bag.

I think one of the reasons I love it so much is the easiness (read: laziness) that goes into preparing it. I can be recovering from a Nyquil hangover and halfway into a comatose state and still be able to put together a heaping bowl of carbohydrate deliciousness. Sure it's slightly nutritionally defunct, but it's filling and comes out the same every single time I make it; unlike actually cooking something.

I've recognized my dependence on processed grains for sustenance and am currently in a rehabilitation program administered by my boyfriend. He allows me to have cereal for breakfast during the week and a few Coco -Roo handfuls at night. I also must make a real lunch to bring to work and assist him in making dinner 3-4 nights a week. I so far excel at suggesting things to make for dinner but fall a little short in actually helping to produce the desired meal. Unless searching for clothes and celebrity photos on the internet while he's in the kitchen counts as cooking.

I am making steps. About once a month now and without any prodding from mi amore I will take full responsibility in cooking something original for myself, and even have enough for leftovers. Unfortunately my standards are still pretty low, so even some refried beans and tortillas are considered a success.

I think my ultimate goal will be to be able to think of original dinner ideas for an entire week and actually make the meals (with help from the beau) for said week. But, like Bush, I will set no timetable for this goal. I need some wiggle room for my Coco-Roos.
