My Motivation

I'm training for a triathlon and even though my training partner is about 800 miles away I can feel her push.

We're both athletic chica-booms; she's a former rower and current ski fanatic, I'm a rugby player and former gymnast. We're both strong on the bike and weak on the swim, but my running record has been consistently stronger. Until 2 weekends ago.

Girl kicked my ass in an 8k by five whole minutes.

So now I have to step up my game.

Rugby season is over. It is time to put away the cleats and mouth guard and train.

And yes, my motivation is weak - I simply don't want my ass kicked again.

It's a matter of pride, but at least I recognize it for what it is.

But the thing is, I've never actively competed for pride, so this is a whole new ball game for me. And yes, it did get me outside today in the crummy weather, just as I'm sure my pride will get my toucas out again tomorrow and the day after that.

There's only six weeks left to discover how strong this motivation can be.
